James Battle, Ph.D is a former professional football player who went on to teach for the Psychology Departments of the University of Eastern Michigan and the University of Alberta for approximately twenty years. Dr. Battle is also a consulting psychologist, author and publisher. For the past fourteen years he has operated a very successful employment training program for youth which is sponsored by the Federal Human Resources Development Department. For his work with unemployed youth Dr. Battle was awarded “The Canadian Jobs Strategy Award of Merit” in 1989 by the Honourable Barbara McDougall, Minister of Employment and Immigration. As well, for his work within the community, Dr. Battle received the “Great Albertan Award” and in 1996 was honoured with a “Black Achievement Award” for his role as an educator by the Black Achievement Awards Society of Alberta. For the past two years Dr. Battle has lead a program for black and Aboriginal youth and their parents entitled “Strengthening Black and Aboriginal Families: Overcoming Racism and Achieving Success in Mainstream Society”.

Dr. Battle’s self-esteem research has been instrumental in helping families and teachers learn positive living skills and strategies. His popular test, the “Culture-Free Self-Esteem Inventories for Children and Adults” is known and utilized throughout the world including Canada, the U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia and Puerto Rico, and is translated into many different languages. Recognized by some of the greatest professionals in the field of psychology and psychiatry today, Dr. Battle has travelled Canada and the U.S. giving lectures and instruction on self-esteem for the past twenty-five years and is the author of over nineteen books and tests dealing with self-esteem.

Dr. Battle, along with his wife Dorothy Battle, founded James Battle and Associates Ltd. in order to provide for Psychologists, Speech & Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Teachers, Physical Therapists, and Remedial Specialists.
