Cognitive (Intelligence) Test: nonverbal [C(I)T:NV]
Morrison F. Gardner
Ages 4 years to 15 years
Available now is a nonverbal Cognitive (Intelligence) Test that assesses a
child’s nonverbal reasoning abilities by both Discrimination (visually
perceiving a group of forms and determining which one of the forms differs
from the other forms within the group; for example, by the principle of deductive
reasoning) and by Analogy (seeing similarity between or among objects and
forms otherwise unlike and, thus, drawing inferences and conclusions; for
example, the ability to supply or to recognize the fourth term which bears
the same relation to the third as the second does to the first.
Raw scores from each subtest and from the combined subtests are easily converted
into standard scores, scaled scores, percentiles, and stanines. Normative
data as well a information on reliability and validity are well-documented
in the manual.
The C(I)T:nv can be administered in 15 to 20 minutes depending on the age
of the child and can be scored in 5 to 10 minutes. The test was designed for
children ages 4 years to 15 years. This test can be administered by the following
professionals: psychologists; occupational therapists; teachers; speech and
language pathologists; optometrists; resource specialists; counselors; learning
specialists; and other professionals.
The C(I)T:nv measures nonverbal reasoning of children who have poor or impaired
linguistic skills, children who are of any culture, children who have impaired
speech, children who have impaired hearing, children who come from a non-stimulating
home environment, children who are physically and/or motor impaired, and children
who have impaired visual perception and/or sight (vision). It does not measure
what a child has learned from home or from formal education; but how well
a child thinks, reasons, draws conclusions, deduces, and makes inferences
on a nonverbal basis.
The C(I)T:nv is a test that is nonverbal (non-language) and non-biased according
to race, culture, gender, or education.

Comprehensive Test of Nonverbal Intelligence [CTONI]
Donald D. Hammill, Nils A. Pearson, and J. Lee Wiederholt
Ages: 6-0 Through 90-11
Testing Time: 1 Hour
The CTONI is a new, unbiased test that measures nonverbal reasoning abilities
of individuals for whom most other mental ability tests are either inappropriate
or biased. It measures analogical reasoning, categorical classifications,
and sequential reasoning in two different contexts (pictures of familiar objects,
and geometric designs). Results are useful when estimating the intelligence
of individuals who experience undue difficulty in language or fine motor skills,
including individuals who are bilingual, who speak a language other than English,
or who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, deaf, language disordered, motor
disabled, or neurologically impaired. No oral responses, reading, writing,
or object manipulation are required to take the test.
The CTONI yields raw scores, standard scores, percentiles, and age equivalents
and was standardized on more than 2,500 individuals. The normative sample
approximate those provided in the 1990 Statistical Abstract of the United
States with regard to gender, geographic region, ethnicity, race, urban/rural
residence, and disability. Reliability of the test has been investigated and
evidence relating to content sampling, time sampling, and interscorer reliability
is provided. Reliability coefficients are all .80 or greater indicating a
high level of test reliability.

Slosson
Intelligence Test - Revised [SIT-R3]: Third Edition
Richard L. Slosson; Revised by Charles L. Nicholson & Terry Hibpshman
Ages: 4 Through 65
Testing Time: 10 – 20 Minutes
The newly revised edition of the Slosson Intelligence Test -Revised remains
a quick and reliable individual screening test of Crystallized Verbal Intelligence.
It now has adapted score sheets for scannable/electronic readers and the supplementary
manual for the visually impaired and the blind is now inclusive of the SIT-R3
manual. Because the SIT-R3 has minimal performance items, embossed materials
now allow testing of the visually impaired and the blind. It is one of the
only measures of intelligence for these populations for both children and
adults.
The Slosson Intelligence Test-Revised is one of the most widely used individual screening tests of its kind. It is used by teachers, psychologists, guidance counselors, special educators, learning disability instructors, and other responsible persons who often need to evaluate an individual’s mental ability.

Test of Nonverbal Intelligence, Third Edition [TONI-3]
Linda Brown, Rita J. Sherbenou, and Susan K. Johnsen
Ages: 5-0 Through 85-11
Testing Time: 15 – 20 Minutes
The TONI-3 is a major revision of the popular Test of Nonverbal Intelligence.
Like its predecessor, the TONI-3 is a language-free measure of intelligence,
aptitude, and abstract reasoning. The administration of the test requires
no reading, writing, speaking, or listening on the part of the test subject.
The TONI-3 is ideal for evaluating subjects who have previously been difficult
to test with any degree of confidence or precision. Particularly those who
are known or believed to have disorders of communication or thinking (e.g.
asphasia, dyslexia, language disabilities, learning disabilities, speech problems)
as well as those who do not read or write English well.
The TONI-3 was normed on a sample of more than 3,000 subjects whose demographic
characteristics match those of the United States (1990 census). The group
was stratified based on age, gender, race. Ethnic group membership, geographic
location, and community size, principle language spoken in the home, and socioeconomic
status as indicated by educational attainment and family income.

Wide Range Intelligence Test [WRIT]
Joseph Glutting, Wayne Adams, David Sheslow
Ages: 4 Through 85
Testing Time: 20 – 30 Minutes
The Wide Range Intelligence Test (WRIT) is a new cognitive measure, which
spans a wide age range, 4 to 85 years. The materials are attractive and “user
friendly”. Administration time ranges from 20 to 30 minutes. The WRIT
yields a Verbal (Crystallized) IQ a Visual (Fluid) IQ, which generate a General
IQ when combined. The Vocabulary and Verbal Analogies form the Verbal Scale
and the Matrices and Diamonds form the Visual Scale.
Subtests & Scores: The
Vocabulary subtest requires an individual to verbally define a word, which
has been dictated and used in a sentence by the examiner; The Verbal Analogies
subtest requires an individual to complete verbal analogies dictated to them
by the examiner. Example: Woman is to Man as Girl is to ____; The Matrices
subtest requires an individual to evaluate a series of pictures and select
the option that best completes a visual picture; The Diamonds subtest requires
an individual to construct specific designs using single or multiple diamond-shaped
pieces.
